Can therapy help me?

There are many reasons people seek therapy.  Some need help with psychological or mood problems such as anxiety or depression.  Others desire a change in their lifestyle, such as living healthier or communicating more openly with their partner.  For others, significant changes such as a divorce or work transition can upend personal or family life.  Therapy offers a judgement free space for personal growth, support, and feedback. Therapy is right for anyone interested in cultivating a life with more awareness, insight, grounding, and resilience.

What can I expect when I call to set up an appointment?

In order to help you decide if therapy with me is a good fit for you, I offer a complementary phone consultation lasting approximately 20 - 30 minutes. This initial interaction will give you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about how I practice and beginning therapy.  In addition, I will help familiarize you with our office policies and procedures as well as fees and payment options.

What will my first session be like?

Most people feel nervous or anxious meeting a therapist for the first time, and often struggle with the decision to make an initial appointment. This is completely normal. However, the process is simple: show up and be yourself. You can expect your first session, also known as an intake/assessment, to last 75-90 minutes.  During this time we will get to know each other better and begin to develop goals for therapy. Prior to your appointment, I kindly ask that you complete my new client information, consent, and HIPPA forms. These forms will be sent to you.

How long will therapy take?

After your intake/assessment, which is 75-90 minutes, you can expect each session to last 50 minutes. The number of sessions needed will differ for each person depending on the reason you are seeking services.  Therapy can be short-term, approximately 6 - 12 sessions, to address specific concerns, or open-ended to explore more complex issues.

What are your fees?

Fees for services are as follows: Intake/Assessment (75 minute session): $210, Individual, Family and/or Couples (50 minute session): $140, Individual, Family and/or Couples (75 minute extended session): $210. I accept cash and all major credit cards.  All fees are due at the beginning of each session.

*A limited number of appointments are available on a sliding scale based on financial necessity as well as availability. Please call to discuss sliding scale prices.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

If you need to cancel or change your appointment, I ask for notification at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled session start time.  Your full session fee will be charged for missed appointments and cancellations received less than 24 hours in advance.

Do you take insurance?

I am not contracted with any insurance companies or health management organizations (HMOs).  However, I would be happy to provide you with an invoice (a.k.a. “superbill”) that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement after each office visit.  I recommend that you contact your insurance provider prior to your initial session to determine (1) whether you have coverage for mental health services and (2) the reimbursement policy for services rendered by an out-of-network provider.

Is therapy confidential?

In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and therapist. No information is disclosed without prior written permission from the client. However, there are some exceptions required by law to this rule. Exceptions include:

  • Suspected child abuse, dependent adult, or elder abuse. The therapist is required to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.

  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself. The therapist will make every effort to work with the individual to ensure their safety and in rare cases this requires contact with family members or other service providers.
